Teri asks, "Children's texts are completely different than young adult texts or even adults texts for that matter, why do you think writer's change their way of writing with each audience? (Honestly I would rather read something that has large text in a children's book with color then an adult text book that is boring and in black and white.)"
I think that they do this to appeal to their audience. A young child would not want to read a book with big words that they can't understand, a teenager wants to read a book where the language that they use is used, and an adult wants to be spoken to as an adult. We all try to relate to the books that read and so writers cater to their audiences. I enjoy books better if they speak in a language that I use and can associate with. I am a much bigger fan of new fiction than I am of fiction written even in the 90s. I like being able to visual the characters and to understand where they are coming from and how they are reacting. If the language were written to a child, I would feel as if the author was being patronizing and talking down to me, not "talking" to me, telling me a story. Some authors do still use pictures in their writing and I do agree that it is much more interesting when pictures are present. I am more of a visual person myself, so pictures grab my eye. In "the DaVinci Code", one version has pictures that are in the middle of all the art and the different objects they refer to. I own that version because I think it is much more enjoyable to be able to see the piece of art they are talking about and referencing. Another reason I think that authors don't use pictures is that when you get older, your imagination is more developed, so you can visual what the author is writing in your head, with an actual picture. You are more apt to use your imagination to picture what the author is writing, so you don't need a literal translation in a picture or drawing to capture what the author is saying. I think that this can also apply to the reason that most people prefer books to movies. When the Twilight movie came out, I know that some people, myself included, were disappointed in the movies. The books were so much better than the movie and I visualized something so much different while I was reading, which is why I think that most authors don't have pictures in books for older genres. They allow us to create our own image with their guidelines.
